چکیده

Context. An unexpectedly complex polyatomic chemistry exists in diffuse clouds, allowing detection of species such as C 2 H, C 3 H 2 , H 2 CO, and NH 3 , which have relative abundances that are strikingly similar to those inferred toward the dark cloud TMC-1. Aims. We probe the limits of complexity of diffuse cloud polyatomic chemistry. Methods. We used the IRAM Plateau de Bure Interferometer to search for galactic absorption from low-lying J=2-1 rotational transitions of A-and E-CH 3 OH near 96.740 GHz and used the VLA to search for the J=8-7 transition of HC 5 N at 21.3 GHz. Results. Neither CH 3 OH nor HC 5 N were detected at column densities well below those of all polyatomics known in diffuse clouds and somewhat below the levels expected from comparison with TMC-1. The HCN/HC 5 N ratio is at least 3-10 times higher in diffuse gas than toward TMC-1.

Non-Thermal Chemistry in Diffuse Clouds with Low Molecular Abundances

High quality archival spectra of interstellar absorption from C I toward 9 stars, taken with the Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph on the Hubble Space Telescope, were analyzed. Our sample was supplemented by two sight lines, 23 Ori and β Sco, for which the C I measurements of Federman, Welty, & Cardelli were used. Directions with known CH absorption, but only upper limits on absorption from ...

Oxygen isotopic ratios in galactic clouds along the line of sight towards Sagittarius B 2 ⋆

As an independent check on previous measurements of the isotopic abundance of oxygen through the Galaxy, we present a detailed analysis of the ground state rotational lines of 16 OH and 18 OH in absorption towards the giant molecular cloud complex, Sagittarius B2. We have modelled the line shapes to separate the contribution of several galactic clouds along the line of sight and calculate 16 OH...

The products of the thermal decomposition of CH3CHO.

We have used a heated 2 cm × 1 mm SiC microtubular (μtubular) reactor to decompose acetaldehyde: CH(3)CHO + Δ → products. Thermal decomposition is followed at pressures of 75-150 Torr and at temperatures up to 1675 K, conditions that correspond to residence times of roughly 50-100 μs in the μtubular reactor. The acetaldehyde decomposition products are identified by two independent techniques: v...

Molecular modification of coumarin dyes for more efficient dye sensitized solar cells.

In this work, new coumarin based dyes for dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC) have been designed by introducing several substituent groups in different positions of the NKX-2311 structure. Two types of substitutions have been considered: the introduction of three electron-donating groups (-OH, -NH(2), and -OCH(3)) and two different substituents with steric effect: -CH(2)-CH(2)-CH(2)- and -CH(2)-H...

Herschel/HIFI observations of interstellar OH and H2O towards W49N : a probe of diffuse clouds with a small molecular fraction

We report the detection of absorption by interstellar hydroxyl cations and water cations, along the sight-line to the bright continuum source W49N. We have used Herschel’s HIFI instrument, in dual beam switch mode, to observe the 972 GHz N = 1–0 transition of OH and the 1115 GHz 111−000 transition of ortho-H2O. The resultant spectra show absorption by ortho-H2O, and strong absorption by OH, in ...
